The Lake Pend Oreille School District (LPOSD) serves students with special needs through support, guidance, and resources to ensure each student maximizes their potential and becomes a contributing member of society. This is accomplished through a collaborative, strength-based IEP process and high quality instruction and learning that addresses the entire student- academic, social, emotional, physical, & vocational in the appropriate least restrictive environment.
In LPOSD, we “Begin with the End in Mind” and thus, we identify the importance of thinking of the future beginning with our early childhood learners all the way through graduating high school seniors. Recognizing the importance of transition and the aspect of self-advocacy, students are encouraged at an early age to become involved in the IEP process- from the early learner sharing their favorite pieces of work, to elementary students sharing their thoughts in how they are progressing towards a goal and attending the meeting, to high school students presenting and running their IEP meetings.
