Important Information

Idaho's open enrollment program allows families to request that their student attend a public school outside their assigned attendance area or school district. Approval is based on available space and other criteria established by Idaho law and district policy. 

Open enrollment applies to two situations:

• In-District Transfers: Your family lives within LPOSD boundaries, but you would like your student to attend a different LPOSD school than the one assigned to your home address.

• Out-of-District Transfers: Your family lives outside LPOSD boundaries, but you would like your student to attend an LPOSD school.

Additional Information:

• Transportation: Families are generally responsible for transportation to the requested school or an appropriate bus stop, as provided under Idaho law.

• Returning Open Enrollment Students: Students must apply for and receive open enrollment approval for two consecutive years. After that, they may continue attending the same school by completing annual registration without reapplying for open enrollment. If a student withdraws or changes schools, the two-year requirement starts over.

Step 1 - Submit an Open Enrollment Application

Complete the online application for the school you would like your student to attend.

Submit an Open Enrollment Application for the 2026-27 school year.

Application Deadlines:

• February 1: Submit your application by February 1 for priority consideration for the following school year.

• After February 1: Applications are accepted throughout the year and considered based on applicable enrollment policies.

Open enrollment applications for the upcoming school year are typically available in early January, with a priority application deadline of February 1.

Step 2- Complete Student Enrollment or Registration

While your open enrollment application is being reviewed, complete the applicable enrollment or registration requirements.

Step 3 - Receive an Enrollment Decision

LPOSD will review your application based on applicable enrollment policies which take into consideration available space, discipline history, and attendance. You will be notified by phone with the enrollment decision. 

Please note: Submitting an open enrollment application does not guarantee placement at your requested school. If your requested school is denied, other options will be offered.
