In LPOSD, we “Begin with the End in Mind” and thus, we identify the importance of thinking of the future beginning with our early childhood learners all the way through graduating high school seniors. Recognizing the importance of transition and the aspect of self-advocacy, students are encouraged at an early age to become involved in the IEP process- from the early learner sharing their favorite pieces of work, to elementary students sharing their thoughts in how they are progressing towards a goal and attending the meeting, to high school students presenting and running their IEP meetings.
The Lake Pend Oreille School District (LPOSD) serves students with special needs through support, guidance, and resources to ensure each student maximizes their potential and becomes a contributing member of society. This is accomplished through a collaborative, strength-based IEP process and high quality instruction and learning that addresses the entire student- academic, social, emotional, physical, & vocational in the appropriate least restrictive environment.
EVERY Student … EVERY Day!
Lake Pend Oreille School District retains inactive special education records for seven (7) years. Once records reach seven years of age, they are securely destroyed to protect against improper or unauthorized disclosure.
Former students (or their parents/guardians, if applicable) who believe these records may be needed in the future for purposes such as Social Security benefits, educational documentation, or other personal matters should request a copy before the records are destroyed.
Individuals wishing to obtain their special education records must contact the district no later than December 31 of the seventh year following graduation, withdrawal, or exit from services. Requests should be directed to danielle.adams@lposd.org. Records may be picked up at the Lake Pend Oreille School District office after arrangements have been made.
After December 31 of the seventh year, records that have reached the end of the retention period will be destroyed in accordance with district records retention procedures.
